All good thingsMarch 2002
Hello everyone,
Well, the musical concluded its tour of Tokushima-ken just last Saturday, winter is finally giving way to spring, and my third grade students are graduating this week, ready to move up to senior high school when the new school year starts in April. They're great kids. I'll be sad to see them go, but of course it's good for them. I guess all good things must come to an end.
Fortunately, the musical will roll around again in October, it will soon be warm enough to swim, and a new batch of first grade students will move up to junior high - in fact, I already know them, having taught them in elementary school, and they're great kids, too. And all this changing of seasons and life rolling on is great for writing haiku. So enough of prose. Here's some poetry. Oh, and some photos, too. Please enjoy. :)
Discovered myself
On a slow autumn morning
Wanting to create
I will paint the earth
With the colours of autumn
And swim in the leaves
Mountains are floating
And my thoughts are wandering
On those winter clouds
The winter is cold
But David is quite handsome
I will go to school
Students are sleeping
On their desks in the classroom
Dreaming of summer
Winter is honest
In the mountains and the heart
And I'm still lonely
But maybe the spring
Is filled with flowers and smiles
And hope for us all
That girl reminds me
Of smiles and innocence
Of trees in the breeze
I can hear music
The sound of spring in the trees
Of birds in the sky
I met a sweet girl
And found myself in her arms
On a cool spring night
When the flowers bloom
And the trees reach for the sun
Time to say goodbye
Take care of yourselves
Even from here, still I hope
That this finds you well
Lots of love,
Dave
